Double celebrations

End of July. Marks a significant part of my life as two of my boys celebrate their birthdays one day after another. Khaleeq turned 8 yesterday on the 30th and Inche Azrul celebrates his 35th today.

As per customary in our little family, each kid would receive at least one present on every birthday celebration - so multiple bodies were actually counting the days to Khaleeq's birthday. ;) Khaleeq is now into Lego Hero Factory and Lego City series, while Khaleeda is in her Play Doh stage. Khadra is not very much into toys so she opted for a headphone for her iPod instead (turning into a teenager too fast that girl). Everyone got their choice of poison last weekend so the present section was pretty much sorted out, thankfully.

When asked about his day in school, Khaleeq said a few of his friends wished him "Happy Birthday" and he was quite pleased with that. He had also apparently invited some friends to Kidzania for his birthday party at 3pm yesterday. I hope none of the kids dragged their parents coz we didn't plan to have the KidZania party until later. Adoii la Khaleeq. Comel betul.

We had a quiet dinner last night with just the family unit and my sweetheart of a husband ran to tapau the usual suspects from Chili's to add on to our berbuka menu. He even managed to get Khaleeq the Baskin Robbin's ice cream cake for moreh later. Yeay, husband! Suffice to say little man is mighty pleased with his day, he even have another City package yet to be opened as at late last night. That'll keep him happy throughout the week, me thinketh.

After the kids went to bed, me and the husband had a little rendezvous with my sisters at Pelita SS2 for some Maggi goreng tak nak sayur telur goyang. A little sahur get together of sorts to mark my man's birthday. No definitive plans for today as yet. But we do have Jamoca Almond Fudge ice cream cake in the fridge along with 3 big candles and 5 small candles with Azrul's name all over it. We'll see la. Must be the age catching up. Hahaha.

Happy birthday dearests. You know that I love you and you.

Hello there 2012!

It's already March the 6th, 2012. I have turned 37 years old exactly 2 months ago and yet this is my first post in 2012. hahahahahahaha. Pathetic, I know.

Ampun tuanku beribu ampun. Relapse lagi penyakit malas nak berblog saya ni. Sorry lah banyak-banyak tuan-tuan dan puan-puan. In all honesty, I have kind of missed writing my unfiltered ramblings and in fact I do have quite a lot to write about. Just never found the time to. Alasan, I know. But there is some truth to it.

There has been good news and not so good news. But, I guess we live through it, don't we? Such is life. There is also a lot to look forward to this year. Especially in the travels department, Insya Allah. For starters, there's the Bali eco culture trip in the upcoming March school holidays. (we flying off this Saturday, dude!) In June, we already have our cheap cheap air fare to Sydney. TQ Air Asia X. And Insya Allah, looking for a special place to spend our 10th year anniversary in September. Kat mana nak pergi? Masih dalam perancangan. Kalau jadi sok, saya share lah. In any case, I have gone back to the gym in the quest to be slightly fitter and less gemuk by then. hahahahahaha Saya juga telah register untuk Energizer Night Run in April. Yes, I did! hihihihihihi (Jangan excited sangat, 5km Fun Run je)

OK lah dulu. Nanti update lagi.

May Already?

Hola people!!!

I am so sorry yet again for neglecting this blog. I have truly missed it, for sure! No excuses this time around, I'll just try to be here more frequently, updating you with the happenings in my life. Which has been plenty, I have to assure you. :)

So, Monday will be a pretty slow one for me and the company, I guess. With Wesak Tuesday coming, a lot of my colleagues are taking the opportunity to have a long 4-day weekend. I don't blame them, really. If I had more annual leave days to my name, I would have taken the day off too. hihihihihi But, I don't. So, I shall trudge along slowly to work and just hope that the day passes by ever so swiftly. It won't be too bad either, methinks. With most people on leave, the traffic would be better and best of all, I might even get a shot to park for free!

The kids will be having their Teachers' Day celebration in school. Telematch for the teachers in the morning, class party during recess and some performances later on. So, not much schooling going on tomorrow. Except for Khaleeda that is. She has the day off. *lucky girl*

BTW, May is a double celebration month for us. My dad turns 66 today and my only brother turned 31 on Saturday. So, here's a Happy Birthday shout out to the two men in the Zaghlol household! Hope you two have a good one this year. Boy, Bila nak kahwin? ;)

Deja vu pulak rasanya. Been here a couple of times already. ;)

Anyhoots, just to update. Saya dah selamat gagal dalam percubaan CIA:Part 3 di bawah. (refer previous post) Kena cuba lagilah di lain kali. :)

On a more recent front, I have been reprioritizing. There's a lot going on. (of course!) Will probably make a more frequent appearance in here. I'll find the time lah. Enough with the excuses already.

The (Attempt of an ) Explanation

*bringing in the vaccuum*

Hola! Soi Dilla.

Sorry for the awkward long silence. Guwe busy. Ni baru nak tulis-tulis balik. Coz I have really missed writing.

Please, do allow me to blame it on:
1. twitter - guwe lepas gian di sinun. (If you haven't already, follow me at @dillazag to read my mumbles and rantings.) Though di sinun pun not as prolific as I want to be. But at least ada lah appearance.

2. Work - there has been a tremendous amount of work to be finalized by year-end. Managed to clear a few already. But, I still have a few more layers of "mangkuk tingkat" i.e. outstanding work.

Can't think of anything else to point at. So, this shall have to suffice. I will be checking in regularly (Insya Allah) from here onwards. There's a lot to tell. A lot to share. Till later, though. Too-da-loo!

I'm Backkkk!!!

Been away from the home country for a while. Attended the CommunicAsia 2010 in Shingapore. Great timing for a seminar as it coincides with the Great Singapore Sale! Yeay! The travelling and catching up on work after the travels. Well, let's just say I have been a little tied. ;)

Anyways, just wanted to share a possibility on this lovely Friday. My weight as per what the scale in the hotel told me.

63.3kg?

Biar betul... If that is so. I have lost 3kgs already since. (I doubt it would stay on like that even, looking at what I have been eating while I was there. hihihihihi) Biarlah, betul ke tak betul ke.. It's a moral booster anyways.

BTW, you heard about the flood at Orchard Street? Thank God I already left my hotel and made my way to the Singapore Expo. There's just sooo much to update! :) Talk to you soon, lovelies.

Al-Fatihah

Got news that Azura Hani Ahmad a.k.a Zoorek and Norhashimah Wahid a.k.a Sheema both succumbed to their illnesses this morning. They both have passed on. As and when there is info, I shall keep the updates coming on this post.

Al-Fatihah to my two lovely sisters. Ya Allah, grant their loved ones the strength to carry on.

I was totally numb, trying to make sense of things. It was so overwhelming that I had to stop the car and park by the roadside and cry and cry and cry. What a devastating way to start the week. I shall miss them dearly.

Just a Teensy Stressed Out!

Could never had imagine how much stress this PKSR is putting onto the parents until I am actually going through it myself.

Picture from: here

Khadra's done with the Bahasa Melayu and Agama exams. Today is Science and Maths. I am a little worried about tomorrow's schedule. English and Arab. So, I made her an A4 size notes on the 5 topics she needs to know already last night and asked her to go over it with me on our way to school this morning. Yes. In the car. Later, I have asked Saufi to send Khadra over to my office after she's done with her papers today and over my lunch break, we'll be going through that Arab revision. So, lunchtime is more focused on trying to do the activity book.

Seems like I had to craft some way to get her revisions done. In time. Within my limitations as a working mom. Wa-emma over my lunch break sekalipun. Takut tak sempat when I come home tonight. Coz she'd be too tired to go through any hardcore memorizing already. I left her some practice questions for English that she could go over on her own. Malam karang baru I can have a look at it. Nasib baik also we've done some English over the weekend.

I need to start thinking about the other exams on Thursday too- Music and Art. Oh, I need to go get the supplies for her topeng watak kartun and maybe a trial run for tomorrow night. So, a big fat YES. I am a little stressed over here. hihihihihihi

Just am a little glad I got to talk to some of the other moms after sending her off for her second day of exams today - apparently, I am not alone. We are all losing our minds here! hahahahahahaha

So, YES. This shout out goes out to all parent(s) who has at least one child undergoing the PKSR1 exams this week. Some of might have gotten that over and done with last week (lucky you!) but some of us are actually going through it right now. Right now. Right now.

Please, please take a breather and give yourself a pat on the back. You are doing a good job so far. Just two more days till it's done. If you find yourself just losing it a teensy little bit, just remember these words. Two.More.Days. If you find yourself crying in the toilet, just let it out and then get your butt out there (again). Persevere. Keep it together , guys! Your child needs you! hihihihihi

Happy Ibu's Day!

I am a mom of three. The first is a girl, Khadra (7 yo in June 2010); the second one is a boy, Khaleeq (6 yo in July 2010) and my baby girl is Khaleeda (3 yo in November 2010). So, every 2nd Sunday in the month of May I am entitled to celebrate Mother's Day with other mothers in Malaysia and probably Asia. (coz apparently people from other parts of the world celebrate them on different days ;) )

I am in no way a perfect mom. Never claimed that I am a supermom. Simply coz I am not. Just a woman trying her very best in raising three kids and balancing her career, family and social life. Sometimes there are good days for this Ibu and sometimes there are bad, ugly ones. After a disagreement / fight with my kids, I sometimes get little notes such as below slipped under the door of my bedroom. It simply affirms that I am just human after all.
First paper reads: Dear Ibu, I don't like you. I'm so sorry. Love, K1 Picture of a broken heart with "Broken" written on it.
Second paper reads: I'm sure you don't like me too. Put a (Tick) if you like me or an (X) if you don't like me.

To which I answered as:
(Tick) and I love you too. Love, Ibu.

After she read that, she gave me a hug and smiled the biggest smile. It saddens me, that she would think I would love her any less since we had a disagreement. Khadra, do know that you would always be my first born daughter and I would love you unconditionally till the day that I die. Yes, she has a lot of jiwa, my Khadra (takes after her Achu, I think)

But being a mommy brought me a share of many happy memories too. The little DIY gifts and art pieces, the achievements be it little or big, the running around and round the bean bag, the completion of a milestone, the great big bear hugs, the incessant kisses, the private family performances and the checking up on you to make sure that you are OK. Those are the images that I hold onto so dearly to give me the strength and perseverance to go on - to keep doing what I am doing coz it is a sign that I have been doing something right too. I wrote about some of it in my Mom's day 2009 post last year and another one in the Mom's Day 2007 - she said that I was the best mother in the world, then! hihihihihi.

Here's someone who's been doing it right. My very own Ibu - she has 7 kids, an illustrious career and loved by all. (Am still wondering how she managed that!)

She is my source of reference and I do adore her so very much. Now that I have my very own kids, I appreciate her even more. I understand where the nags are coming from, all from a beautiful heart filled with love. I remember one time I was so overwhelmed with mommy duties that I wrote an entry for my mom. She was in London at the time, visiting my sister Ema and she actually commented on the post. hihihihihihi. There was this other time when i was ranting about what I sometimes want from life, she wrote almost an entire paragraph in the comments section that went like this:
datuk azizah said... Syabas i am so glad ibu2 muda sekarang dah pandai menyesuaikan diri sebagai ibu. do only whatever u are capable of, don't stress yourself semata2 only on perkara duniawi ini, ingatlah give the kids whatever yg menjadi your tanggungjawab as orang ISLAM semoga mendapat kejayaan di dunia dan akhirat. Give the best to your husband and children.
Ya, Ibu saya IT savvy - she has a facebook account and she sometimes reads my blog (and leave comments too). I love you so very much, Ibu. She is just the best!

So, to all mommies out there - in good times and in bad times , have a very Happy Mother's Day, y' all! :)

Selamat Pengantin Baru, Hani...

I was really excited to receive a wedding invitation from my former housemate in UNITEN - Fazilah Hani Harun. The invite itself was creme and pink and at the cover , it said: Hani & Zizan. The first thought that ran through my head was, Hani nak kawin dengan Zizan Raja Lawak ke? It was quickly answered when I turned the cover coz Hani (in her beautiful engagement outfit and complete with tudung) was smiling right at me with Zizan Nin by her side. So, the first question quickly answered and it was quickly replaced by "Lawanya dia pakai tuduung!!"

Apparently, Hani is now with NTV7 - she's a broadcast journalist. Of all the years I've known her, she's really been doing most everything. I think she started her working life as a stewerdess in Malaysia Airlines, then Air Asia. She was part of the team that went on the maiden flight to Manchester and took photos with the ManU team, I think. hihihihi.. Then she worked for some engineering consultant's office and now settling at NTV7. So to say her life is colourful is somewhat an understatement. :)

A few calls between friends later, we have kaw-timed with my lovely Srikandi, Jaja to secure a place on the same table. I had a lovely time catching up with friends - loads of goss and laughter!

The bride was a sight to behold. So beautiful in her flowing outfit. She looked a tad taller than Zizan. Prolly due to the heels. He even commented on it during his speech - "To my wife, what can I say? You look so beautiful AND tall" hihihihihi.. Lain kali pakai platform lah brader... :)

My highlight moment, dapat ambik gambar dengan the bride and groom!!! hihihihi

Girlie housemates reunited. (Mana Juju?)
L to R: Inche Azrul, Inche Azril, Zizan Nin, Fazilah Hani, moi, Jaja

We are so happy for you, beautiful Hani. Here's wishing you a wonderful journey of life together as man and wife! Yes, you are absolutely right, dear - it won't be a bed of roses. Make it work and stick together through thick and thin. :)

No Plastic Bag Every Saturday

Did you know that the state of Selangor has implemented 'No Plastic Day' on every Saturday ? What it means is that if you go shopping in the state of Selangor on any given Saturday, you will not be handed plastic bag(s) to carry your goods. If any plastic bag is needed, then you might be charged a minimal sum for it. So bagus, right? My response to that is, "About freaking time!" :)

For me, personally, I have been lugging my very own reusable bags since like a year ago. I have evolved from the bulky , fold-unfriendly green bags (and the blue cooler bags) from Village Grocer, as evident below:

To the eco-friendly, easy to fold and chuck into your handbag RuMe bags ( got it from Tiny Tapir, of course. :) ) I got two Medium bags in the Fall in NY 5th Ave and Spring in NY 5th Ave designs.

Picture from : here

Jangan marah ya dong! Jessica Alba spotted using the exact same design that I have - Fall in NY 5th Avenue. Sungguh precious! :) Hahahahaha ( Dasar perempuan kiasu. Tak nak kalah! Asyik nak pakai beg celebrity pakai aje. )

The plus point for me is that they are easily rolled to be chucked into my handbag. Three RuME bags can be rolled together too. So it gets me prepared for groceries shopping at any time at all. I normally use one bag for the wet stuff - chicken, sausages, vitagen, etc and the other for the dry stuff. To complement the two, I also have a indigo-coloured fabric netting bag to chuck all the other groceries in. So far they have been adequate and have served me well. Of courselah, when you buy pampers or boxes of tissues or big bottles of Softlan, no need to use the baglah! Just carry it loose. Kalau tak berapa banyak beg nak guna???

As taken from the RuMe website, by incorporating RuMe Bags into our everyday lives, we can do our part in reducing the estimated:
  • 17 billion gallons of oil used annually to produce plastic bags
  • 100 billion plastic bags Americans throw away after a single use
  • And save more than a million birds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles that die every year from eating or getting entangled in plastic
Wah! We can help the environment so very much by just bringing our own bags to do groceries. It doesn't matter if it RuMe or Jawi. (Lame joke, haha) As long as you STOP using the plastic bag for shopping.

Masih tak teruja?
Go on. You know you want to already. Stop using that plastic bag already. Bring.Your.Own reusable bags. It's trendy and it helps the Earth!

If you feel like you'd like to increase the stylo factor, then please meet the "Mother of all Eco-friendly Shopping Bag" as dubbed by the Manilla Fashion Observer - Longchamps Le Pliage shopping tote.
Pictures from : here , here and here.

The medium size with Long Handle retails at RM530, y'all. Adoiiiiai!

Sekarang baru teruja, kan?
hihihihihi

Assalamualaikum!!!

Whilst waiting for the kids to finish their night mengaji sessions, I could normally be found in either Giant Kota Damansara or Sunway Giza. If I were to spend time in Giant (there's J.Colah yang! :) ) , Maghrib could be performed in their surau. Tapi kalau nak pergi Giza, I would normally solat Maghrib at the Kota Damansara mosque. Last Monday, however, I decided to entertain a slightly different approach. How about tak payah je pergi any malls?

*Gasp* Could that be done?

So, I had my very early dinner at home at around 6:15pm. Sent the kids to their mengaji class and I headed to the Kota Damansara mosque for both jemaah Maghrib and jemaah Isya'. (Yeay, Dillz!) Truth be told, I have not been going to the mosque for solat berjemaah for quite some time already. This is, of course, not counting the days in the month of Ramadhan or any solat Raya. So, while the kids get to go mengaji, why don't I try to do something for myself too - untuk tambah my Amanah Saham Akhirat (ASA) , as my mom aptly says. :)

Aaaaaannyways, there was a very interesting short tazkirah in between the two prayers last Monday. The message was simple - asking for permission to enter and memberi Salam.

Assalamualaikum , ejaan orang melayu kita, which really means "Peace be Upon You".

(Picture from here )

Without going into the dalils and the hadiths here, the ustaz gave some reminders on:
  1. Asking for permission before entering a person's premise / house and giving the Salam- the emphasis ada dua. One on the permission and the second on the Salam. If the host are not up for it, we can't go to their house, tau! Orang Melayu ni suka je terjah rumah orang, patut-patutnya telephone, tanya dulu, baru datang.. :) Bila dah sampai tu, budgetlah - bagilah Salam, kan?
  2. Extending that into our own house and making it a norm for your child to knock and ask for permission to enter your room and give you the Salam and vice versa. He gave examples, what if your child entered your room when you are indecently dressed (or not dressed) . Sure malu, kan?
  3. If you sedang mencegah mungkar, tak payah la ask for permission. :) Imagine the cops asking for permission before doing their raid. Habihla lari semua penyamun.. hihihihi
Lama dah tak pergi tazkirah, usrah ni semua.. Teringat zaman kat STF. hihihihi

Anyhoots, I extended learning point number 2 to Khadra and Khaleeq during the drive back. What do you know, next day, si Khadra terus, "Assalamualaikum.." at the Master Bedroom door. Tapi pagi ni dah tak ketuk pintu balik. hihihihihihi

Side track kejap: Zatil / Yoi bila nak ajak kitorang jengok rumah korang ni? Dah masuk dua bulan dah budak-budak tu mengaji wei... hihihihihi

I've Been Spammed

I noticed that of late, I have been receiving lots of unrelated, seemingly random comments which I had to delete one by one. Some were even written in Japanese or Korean. Hello? I don't even know how to read them. Some looked like an advertisement. Some were just random words strung together which eventually pointed to a link to a website. Have I been spammed?

See examples below:

OK. Sangat tak kelakar, tau!!!

So, I have resorted to Word Verification option such as below to limit the auto-spamming into my blog. Seeing that only humans can type the verification word, hopefully akan menjadilah.

Sorry guys. Not that I get many comments anyways but this is just getting way too ridiculous. Those of you who do decide to leave a footprint in this little blog of mine would have to do this extra step from now on.

Jangan serik comment ya.

Ailabiu!

Poor Baby

My poor baby is sick. He looked a little tired yesterday before going to mengaji class at Ustazah Yati's. I noticed that he was rather quiet and was trying to catch a sleep all through the one-hour journey through after work traffic to Kota Damansara. At Ustazah's place, he got off with his sister and I made my way home. (Made a deal with Azrul to pick them up later so that I get to watch American idol at 8pm)

Anyways, at the Section 16 traffic light, I got a call from Ustazah yati that Khaleeq threw up and we need to pick him up. The other kids had been sent home coz he threw up all over the tikar and it made it impossible to conduct the solat practical. :(

Kesiannya Khaleeq sakit sampai muntah-muntah. :(
Kesiannya the other kids tak dapat belajar malam semalam. :(
Kesiannya Ustazah had to deal with the muntah and had to cancel the classes. :(
Kesiannya all the moms and dads sending their kids to class yet have to bring them back before it is supposed to end or even started. :(

My apologies to the parents for menyusahkan. It was di luar jangkaan. I really thought he wasn't that sick when we dropped him off.

Right after Azrul picked them up, we went to see the doctor and he was given meds for the fever, vomitting and cough. Oh and the anti-biotics also.

Here he is waiting for the meds at the clinic.

He is resting at home today. I hope he gets well soon.

Lesson learnt last night - kalau anak tu is extra quiet and macam tak larat, tak payah la paksa pergi sekolah jugak. :( Ingat tu, Ibu!

Good Conversations Over Icecream

The dessert:
Yummy Earthquake at Swensen's. And it was at 50% off since we had it on a Tuesday. :)

The participants:
We were in college together whilst doing the ADP programme at PPP/ITM, Shah Alam.

Just ladies of the ordinary variety, each with their own stories to tell. A glowing mom-to-be, the tough single mom, singletons having the time of their lives, devoted wife and super (and not-so-super) moms.

I tell you, I really need to reconnect more.

I want to be there during the good and the bad times, girls! We need to do this again, lah. ;) *and another reason to have yummy ice-cream*

Thanks Amy for organizing, even though you had to pay RM13.50 for parking when I paid RM3.50. hihihihihihihi

2 Great News In A Day!

I was just minding my own business today when not one, but two great , wonderful news came my way. :)

News Number ONE

The lovely Liana from my office has given birth to a beautiful baby girl, who at the moment is known as Sara. She was born at 12.33pm yesterday at Pantai Medical Centre. She is still looking for a good second name , so I suggested - Sara Hana (cilok nama anak Faradzilla Roziani) or Sara Lynn (cilok nama anak Zaihasra). She is such an adorable baby, with her big big eyes and pouty lips. She kept her eyes opened and was scrutinizing the makcik-makcik yang bising datang visit dia. :)

So, congratulations dearest Liana and take a good, much deserved rest. She would be taking the services of Hanis Zalikha's aunty as the live-in confinement lady for 14 days (daily urut, masak pantang, jaga baby). So I am really waiting for her review on her services. Mana tau it might come in handy in a few years... :)

News Number TWO

This second news really come as a very very pleasant surprise.

Begini, background storynya.
Two people that I really liked from my PPP days got married to each other and I have been reading her blog for a while now. She also operates a blogshop ; ShoppingQueen78 (that is really cool, by the way) that handles orders from the US. Salah satu product that really caught my eye and yang tengah selling like hot cakes sekarang ini adalah Coach ID lanyard that comes in gold (10 left), black(2 left) and red(1 left).

Sila rujuk product tersebut di sini.

Jokingly, sebagai orang yang tak tau malu, I commented on her personal blog that I would like to get the awesome Coach lanyard as a birthday present. But, of course, I expected nothing out of it.

Tup,tup. Guess what abang poslaju got for me this morning?

So sweetlah KS and SK. I lap you two very very much lah! (Ooo, dapat hadiah baru nak sayang sayang!) hihihihihihi Still smiling like a kerang busuk. Thank you lovelies, you guys really made my day. :)
