Preparing for the Show!

Told you about our upcoming Teachers' Day performance earlier . So, we finally met up for dance practice last Sunday. About 10 parents showed up for the choreography. We will be performing Dancing Queen from the Mamma Mia musical and the Wonder Girls' hit - Nobody But You! :) Two full hours flew by while you were having fun!

The other fun thing was preparing for the show - searching for the costume and the accessories. We went scouring Pavillion and Sungai Wang for the perfect short can-can skirt to be worn over our black tights. ZZ of course was entrusted to find masks and wigs for the show. Excited nya... hihihi

Here's a little sneak peek of MY wig:

So natural, kan????

It's Idol Time

It's January and it's Idol time!

American Idol is back yet again for its 9th season and the first audition in Boston was premiered last night on Astro's Star World. 9,000 hopefuls turned up despite the rain from wee hours in the morning for a chance to prove that they are the next American Idol in front of a Paula-less panel of judges. Yup, Paula threw down the towel at the wrap up of the 8th season and it has also been confirmed that this would be Simon Cowell's last tenure on the hit reality series. It was also confirmed that witty Ellen de Generes would be the substitue judge for this season. In the mean time, the fourth judge is made up of 8 guest judges - yesterday it was Madam Posh Beckham.

Let it be known that I love American Idol, for the bitter realism of Simon, for the evolution and betterment of the talents that do progress week by week BUT mainly for the doofs unearthed during the audition phase. hihihihihihihihi.. Seriously, leave me a comment in the comment box if you have not heard of Willian Hung. :)~~ For yesterday's show, however, I really think this Emo Boy takes the cake home. Serious emo , okay!!! *sheesh*

(Pictures from : here , here , here)

Do catch the American Idol Season 9 auditions on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Star World at 6pm, 8pm or 12am. If you could not catch those airing time, it will also be playing on 8TV on Thursdays and Fridays at 10pm.

Can't wait for tonight's episode!

The BFFs lives on (for now)

For as long as she can remember, Khadra has always had Teyta and vice versa. They are cousins, you see and they were born in the same year, 2003. Teyta being my elder sister's daughter.

Enter Harissa in the year 2007. Point of contact? Beaconhouse Bangsar, class Irises 1. The three of them loves to sing, to dance, talk-non-stop, looking pretty, putting on makeup, manicures and the like.

It is no wonder that the three of them got on well together and their friendship has been elevated to BFF status. They do most everything together and are always there for each other. Take December 2009 for example, here's a list of things/events that they have attended / gone to together.
  • Sleepover for the Graduates
As part of their graduation (after kindy, je) , the mommies (well, mostly Ziezi and Fiza) arranged for a sleepover party at PNB Derby Park for the three princesses. The agenda was really shallow; basically just fun, fun, fun. There were singing, dancing, makeup sessions, menicure and nail arts, more make up sessions, makan-makan, performance time, swimming and more makan-makan. Needless to say the girls enjoyed theselves tremendously.

Here's their take on "Party in the USA" by who else but their idol si Miley Cyrus.

  • HSM: Summer Celebrations
The HSM crew was in town, so we made an outing for the girls of the house to KLCC for the show. (This time, even Khaleeda and Neyna was invited) The three came in their high school best and to add on to the excitement, Ziezi (as usual) even brought the pom-poms and the feather boa.

  • Princess & The Frog Party
Teyta celebrated her advanced birthday at the movies, so the kids were invited for a Princess and the Frog party. They came in their princessy costumes to watch the movie.
Their BFF run would have ended when they enter the next stage of their life but it seems that it has been given an extension of time. The three of them will be attending their Primary One in SKBD together next year! Hah! :)

Here's to BFFs that last forever.. (Well, at least for another 6 years)

Cuci The Musical - Were you there?

I was. And we have pictures to prove it! :)

:)

We went to the 8:30pm show on Tuesday, 3rd of November 2009. It was the last week of the show and the auditorium was pretty full, save for the side seats. I went to the movie screening last year (apparently NOT with hubby - was it with you, Cik Ros?) and as the show went along, I thought they did quite a good job interpreting it into a play for the stage.

They also had English subtitles for the show. So, when you see the subtitles NOT moving, you'd know that there were some pretty funny ad-libs going on. There were times when the casts were laughing themselves to stitches too. I loved the show - it was 3 hours plus of laughing out loud.. They did an awesome job! Afdlin, AC and Awie were great as usual - with the acting AND the singing. Especially liked Awie's character , so unlike his Sembilu days. That man can really laugh at himself! :) Hans was surprisingly good with the singing, plus this is his brainchild. So, well done there! Vanida (I think the original cast was Erra as CJ, right? Ingat-ingat lupa lak) was excellent too and so was Adibah Noor and Harith and Reefa and that Tan Sri guy. BTW, the choreography was by Stephen *Hang Tuah* Rahman-Hughes. Really...

So, to me it was simply the icing on the cake when I got autographs of the main casts (except AC) and also a hug and a pose from Adibah Noor! Yeay!

Hi-5 Surprise LIVE - The Review

It was a tiring trip for sure.. In fact I was still half-hearted when we started the journey. First off, the kids, minus Khaleeda and Neyna, were all fasting. And to top it off, I knew that it would be a really looong drive home, taking into account the long-holiday balik kampung rush. With all that at the back of my mind, we headed to Kota Keriangan in Ziezi's Wish anyways.

How to get to Arena of Stars? Just a friendly note here coz we were also driving around the top of the hill to get the best parking for a car filled with kids. We did not exactly wanted to walk a long way since they were fasting and all.. The Arena of Stars is within the same vicinity as the Genting Theme Park. So , find your Parking spot at the space marked for Theme Resort Hotel. Once you get to the lobby, the Arena of Stars will be staring right in front of your face. (i.e. adjacent entrance to the Theme park)

The kids were all psyched up, all armed with their hoodie to brace the chill. Going around and around the "mountain" Khaleeda vomitted a few , but she was OK thereafter and took a nap all the way up. We were there pretty early. Thankfully, the ride up was a breeze and it took us no time at all to get there.

Once we got in, the first stop was , of course, the merchandise store. Fallen victim, as usual, I bought some momentos from the show. (Kasi chan la, ticket masuk dah free, kan?) Jup-jup stuffed toy, Hi-5 fairy wings with skirt that Khaleeda wore immediately, Hi-5 cape and hair band which Khadra wore, 2 swimming bags and 2 of those character stuff that you could wave around. Puas hati.

The audience turn-out was really bad, though. Like tak sampai 200 pun in that massive space.. Oh well, better for us coz we got to move to a better spot once the show started. The highlight was definitely towards the end of it when they opened the gates to the VIP space and we all rushed to the front of the stage. Khaleeda and the rest had a ball dancing to her favourite song, "Monster Dance" and I caught the encore song on video. :)

At the end, I lifted Khaleeda up so that she gets to Hi-5 the casts in person and one of the girls even kissed her on the cheek.

My verdict? All the trouble was really berbaloi in my books. :)

Live from the Arena of Stars

Getting ready for a fun Hi5 time!
Full report after this...;)

-dillz blogging out-

To Hi5 or Not to Hi5

Have you heard of Hi5, the 5 team sensation who dances and sings while wearing quirky and fun costumes? They have their own tv show airing on Nick Jr. and happens to be Khaleeda's favourite. She loves them so much that when you count, 1,2,3,4 ; she'd continue with Hi5! She even memorizes some of their steps, I kid you not.

So, imagine our surprise when I found out that:

Picture from :here

AND to top the icing to the cake:

Complimentary tickets for each student in Beaconhouse Bangsar to watch Hi5 Surprise! show LIVE in Genting Highlands. No brainer, right? We should just get in the car and climb straight up to the hilltop.

Aah.. Do not jump your horses too soon , my friend for herein lies the challenge:
  • The show is for TODAY, 31st August 2009, at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands ; and get this - showtime is at 4pm
What's the big deal?
  1. Khadra and Khaleeq and me are fasting AND the show is at 4pm- hence, timing untuk berbuka puasa sangatlah sucks!
  2. Logistics up and down the hill - imagine having to drive up AND down the hill PLUS today is the end of a long weekend. Just let your imaginations run wild with the potential traffic jam from the masses coming back from their kampungs. And we are talking about Karak highway here..
Khadra and Khaleeda really really wants to go. *Really* Khaleeq is non-chalant about it, he said it was for Babies and Girls.. So, he's quite okay with staying home (and finishing up his homework with dad) Have been going back and forth with this since the past 3 days. Kejap nak pergi, kejap tak nak pergi.. Kejap nak pergi, kejap tak nak pergi..

Decisions need to be firmed up and ASAP. I so wanna get them there but so malas to deal with all the other implications. Ikut hati, baik dok rumah je buat kerja or rest (a.k.a. tido). But, at the back of my mind, I have this mental pictue of Khaleeda dancing to the tunes and how so darn happy she'd be when she sees them LIVE. Aaahhhh.. Nak tidur lah kejap. I'll most likely just carpool with Ziezi and we'll just redah je lah.. We'll see..

Hoedown Throwdown

As I have mentioned in my previous entry, I LOVED the Hannah Montana movie. I watched it with Khadra and Teyta that day. One thing about the movie was that it had such an excellent track. We bought the OST and one of the songs that really stuck in my head was Hoedown Throwdown. There was a scene in the movie where Miley took the stage and the whole barn was doing the line-dance. *ala-ala pocho-pocho, gitu*The following video is ciloked from youTube detailing step-by-step dance moves. Very interesting..

Here's a video of Khadra and Teyta attempting the Hoedown Throwdown. (Extra kat depan tu nama dia Puan Neyna - just doing her silly dance) Note their movements, sorang gi depan, sorang gi belakang - ada choreography, you... :)

Ni baru test practice je.. They are planning another one with their aunties soon. Watch out for it!

Growing - The Making Of

Khaleeda takes after Khadra in terms of her love for performing, her music sense, rhythm and dancing. She will be 2 in November and she loves posing for pictures and recording her "performances". Often times, she would request to have a look at the recording / picture shot every after "take".

She has a number of "performances" in her repertoire now. She loves imitating the moves off her favourite shows like Barney and Hi-5. She could, if she wanted to, perform to "Growing", "If All The Raindrops", "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "One, Two Buckle My Shoe". I was trying to capture her performing to "Growing" just the other day..

Take 1:

First try to get her to perform the song. Tak habis satu verse pun, main talent telah menyuarakan rasa tidak puas hatinya...

Take 2:

Musnah harapan bonda. Start-start pun dah takde angin nak perform. hihihihihi

Take 3:

When it started it looked like she would go all the way... Sampai nak hujung first verse, member dah buat tak pahammmm je. hihihihi

Wah!! Susah juga ya nak manage small talents ni. Mummy pun dah tak larat nak tunggu. Lain kali je lah nak, ya?? :)~~

Remembering MJ

Was up last night ramping up my report. Coincidentally, "Remembering MJ" was also on on E! It was the live telecast of the memorial service for the great legend, Micheal Jackson in Staples Center. Loads of celebrities were present for the public service and apparently, some millions of fans applied to be there in the flesh but only 11,000 was allowed entry into the centre with another 6,500 more watching via video streaming in the opposite Nokia Theatre.

There were loads of singing - not in a hoo-hoo.haa-haa kind of way, the ambiance was very sombre and tensed. I especially liked the rendition by Jermaine Jackson singing MJ's favourite song, Smile by Charlie Chaplin. Usher's "Gone Too Soon" also struck a chord with me. Mimi's intro song, "I'll Be There" was a bit off, I thought; maybe she was feeling too sad to sing nice.

There were also friends giving their last respects, like Brooke Shields and Queen Latifah. The son and daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. were there too. But most of all, I thought the most moving was when Paris, Micheal's only daughter voiced her heart out to share with all the world. She said, "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him. Sooo much " Then she cried some more as her aunt Janet hugged her tight and then whisked her off the stage. Here's a snippet off youtube:

I couldn't help but shed a tear. It was just so sad and so touching. Can't imagine a child that young losing her father. And to think that their identities have been so protected with the masks and what not. Here she is baring her heart..

Read the full story on NBC's Poignant service says goodbye to Jackson

Rest well, MJ. I got my sleep at 4am this morning.

(Picture credit: here , here )

Oh, by the way, if you didn't catch it this morning, 8TV will be showing the repeat tonight.

Mahsuri

Went to the Mahsuri play last night with these lovely ladies - Mom, ZZ, Mak Anjang, Mak Teh, TiLong Anis and Urfiah. Nazz also came with ZZ. It was kind of our Mother's Day outing sambil-sambil appreciating the local arts and culture.

The casts were pretty well-known with Vanida Imran taking the lead as the title role. Her Wan Darus was this guy from a reality TV program, Arja Lee - he has such a heavenly voice... My favourites were Shabera Shaik as the evil villain Mahura and how can you not just love Azizah Mahzan (of SpaQ!) as the busy-body Andartu. But, most of all, our friend, Adriana Mohd Badri was part of the chorus as the orang kampung called Intan. (She even has a name!) You won't miss her coz she has a big yellow flower on her hair all the time! hihihihihihihihi.. Great job, Rina.. So proud of you!!!!!

Bumped into many familiar faces, popular and not-so-popular. Will be uploading the pose we had with the casts (even got autographs - jangan jeles..) and our rubbing shoulders with the local celebs when I am done ciloking it from those with proper camera. (Sheesh, I really need a compact camera soon)

Whilst waiting, do feast on the papparazzi picture of the tubby Mr. Ghazari Amri Sanusi with Puan Laila. Man, have not seen him since ADP. hihihihihi...

Concerto!

As promised. The kiddies year-end concert at Early Years Playgroup for this year.

Theme of concert is Children of the World. Good news for the mommies is that we only had to prepare three screens as the backdrops because the screens used for Anna and the King last year are gonna be recycled as part of Hang Jebat's istana. Less to design and less to paint. :) The main screen is of 4 prominent landmarks of the world - Great Wall of China for the tanglung dance by the nursery kids, Taj Mahal for the Bollywood dance by the kindergarten kids; as well as the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in France for the international medley they sing as a finale. The second backdrop is of a desert for the Cowboy/Western sketch cum sing-a-long and the final scenery is of a beachfront for the hula dance. The teachers also prepared 3-d cacti and coconut trees as props - very believable.

First up was the nursery kids doing the tanglung dance. Unfortunately, Khaleeq froze. He just stood there, stone faced.. heh heh heh .. Stage fright lah, mamat nih.. Took a little snippet of him doing nothing. if you are interested, click here for the link.
Then came Khadra's Bollywood dance. Fuyyoh!!! Check that booty shaking, dudes!! (Khadra's in the sexy green and pink number)

The Western sketch is of the cowboys riding their stick horses around a campfire and having a drink after. Then comes the cowgirls in their stick horses (some were pink horses!) and having a cuppa also.. At the end of the long ride, they have a little sing-song session of Country Road.

Next is the Hawaiian dance by the nursery kids PLUS the girls from the kindergarten class. Watch the snippet here!

Then, a little sketch set during the Sultanate of Malacca era, Hang Jebat has his dancing girls dance for him, Hang Tuah kills Hang Jebat and everybody's happy. Khadra is Melor, Hang Tuah's girlfriend from the jungles of Malacca. She even had a script:
"My name is Melor. Hang Tuah likes me!"
(She then doubled up as one of the dancing girls)

As a finale, they performed a medley of songs: Can Mali Can, Kookaburra and Frerre Jacques. Watch it here.

Oh, there was also the awards presentation where everyone got a prezzie. Khadra had an additional one for Best Overall Development for 4 1/2 year old. This is Khadra's last concert here as she'll be attending another school effective Jan 2008. Fear not though, I'll still be volunteering for the backdrop designs next year as Khaleeq is still gonna go there.. heh heh heh I hope he'll learn to control the stage fright by then!

Huggies Ballerina

Khadra was selected to participate in Huggies Ultra launch that features a toddler ballerina in their newest campaign. So, few girls from her ballet class were chosen to run around in their diapered costume for the launch. Quite an interesting experience for me, though.. Even took leave specifically for it!

The event was held at Kid's Zone in Damas - Khadra and Khaleeq's resident play gym. So, she was quite comfortable with the surroundings. We were told to come in early at 1pm when the launch was scheduled at 3pm. I soon discovered why. The kids just froze and didn't want to run in tippy-toed as previously practiced in class. Waa... Stage fright? After a while and some coaxing from the mommies who ran alongside them, they got just a tiny bit better. :) To keep the kids happy, they were allowed to play on the slides and later retreated to an activity room for some drawing and colouring. That kept them busy while waiting for the VIPs to arrive.

The launch went very well, infact and the kids were even treated to ice-cream afterwards. They had to come in for the final photo session when my Khadra exclaimed,
"I have to work AGAIN?" so matter-of-factly.. heh heh heh

Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat

GAMARJOBAT - What does it mean, really? According to Ketch & Hiro-pon, it means everything and nothing.

After reading rave reviews from Afdlin's blog last year, we were very pleased to find out that they have returned to this side of the shore yet again for another round of laughs. We were contemplating very hard whether or not to watch the show seeing that the ticket is priced at some RM60 a pop. As luck would have it, I was at Starbucks one fine day and read a brochure that said:

With a receipt of any amount from Starbucks, get a second ticket to watch Gamarjobat for free.

I called up hubby at once and we bought 2 tickets and got 2 free ones. We invited my two (then-single) sisters to watch it with us.

After seeing the show, I had to agree. It really was very very good. The two mohawk mimes really used the audience and had such great stage presence. It really proves that you don't have to say anything to be funny. They really raised miming to a whole new level. Not your typical black-and-white tuxedo wearing, white faced person being stuck in a box kind of mime.
The whole show actually consists of 2 mini shows. The first part is when they warm the audience up, putting everyone in the mood. I loved the fact that they actually took what was happening around them, in the hall, and incorporated them into the show, might I add, quite effortlessly. For instance, the audience who came in late -- Aaahhhhh .. Bad mistake.... ;) (Note to self: Don't be late if we watch them again next year!)

The second part was a long sketch about The Boxer. There were several characters in the sketch: the boxer, the old coach, the girlfriend, the opponents ; but they were all played by the dynamic duo. I was most impressed by their body movements, especially when they did the slo-mo actions. Every muscle was orchestrated and performed to perfection! Best part is, we got to eat after the show. The grubs were very tasty. Oh yes, they also autographed our posters and I'd also like to point out that we were first in line! ;)

Verdict: Very entertaining and very very funny.

I just couldn't get over the fact that one of them really really looks like Kalai...

Music To My Ears

*from my other blog at Dilla Speaks Out

PUTERI GUNUNG LEDANG - The Musical Season 2 WITH ENGLISH SURTITLES

That’s what you’ll read on the RM15 Program Book. Surtitles? Titles that are shared in common to identify the members in a ‘group’? Hmm… What does that mean? Not a very good first impression, I must say. I mean, didn’t they proof read it? I thought this production was supposed to be of International Standard. After all, we did pay RM100 per pax.

Hubby, me, Ema and Pez went to watch PGLTM (S2) last Friday, 18th of August 2006.We got to rub shoulders with some celebrities, though. I noticed Zahim Al-Bakri, Yasmin Hani Wacca!!! and Fazura. (Infact, Hani and Fazura sat in the same row as us.. So, it was more like rubbing ankles, like that..) The Emcee started the show by asking us to clap really loudly and delivered more bad news; AC Mizal wasn’t there and the part of Gusti Adipati will be played by Wan Shades. Dang it! I was soo looking forward to watching him..

The curtain finally opens and my jaw immediately dropped. (In a good way) WOW-wie!!! My heart was filled with pride — proud that this particular production was made by Malaysians and it was totally awesome! The casts were being lifted up and down the stage space — Hurray for hydraulics! It was indescribable (for the lack of a better word, I guess) It was truly magnificent! I was amazed, I couldn’t help but clapped really loudly everytime the main casts made their entrance.

The set was incredible — I noticed that the props were really used in so many ways. One point it was a hill, and another point in time it was the entrance to the courtyard… The movement of casts, who doubled up to set the stage. I remember those days, during our school production - we had people running around in black track bottom and CREW printed on the back of their t-shirt. Remember them? Well, none of those here! ;) The costume — genuinely original and functional at the same time. I was taken by the fact that the ladies were wearing sarongs which were actually pants! Kewl beyond words! Loved the ensemble. The songs were catchy, the direction was great great great! It was like watching a production on Broadway (I guess.. not that I have ever been to NY) My eyes were always loking out for this particular girl, Ruzana Ibrahim since she was one of Ema’s friend - even came to Pondok Azlul early this month for Ema’s party. That wasn’t really hard since she was a tall girl.. Anyways, I really thought that they were really good and they seemed to enjoy performing their numbers.

Main casts - Tiara (Gusti Puteri) did an awesome job. She was beautiful, had a decent voice and a great performer. Only comment, I think she is a little old to be Puteri Gunung Ledang. But then again, the production is her baby - whatever she wants, goes then. But, in all honesty, you go, girl! Wan Shades (Gusti Adipati) was good, but I had my heart set on watching AC Mizal. :( Yalal Chin (Patih) was great - he was not feeling well at that time too.. At one point he was coughing quite bad.. Bayan was also good and believable. Then, came in the Melaka entourage — Hang Tuah was a dream!!!! Doesn’t sound like he couldn’t speak a word of Malay. Hubby pointed out that the costume really showed off how buff he was. ( Not that I was staring or anything, heh heh heh) AND, he has such a strong singing voice… Adlin Aman Ramli (Sultan) was of course entertaining, especially when he did that fast number!

After the standing ovation, there was a little autograph signing ceremony going on at the lobby. Managed to get Stephen Rahman-Hughes, Tiara, Wan Shades, the little Raja Ahmad and Yalal Chin to sign my Program Book. (Yes, the one with English Surtitles, that one..) Then, we took some silly pictures and went home.. (Pix will be uploaded once I get it off Ema - DONE!)

Aaaahh… I sure had such sweet dreams that night..
